Are there weeds in the Kingdom of God? Most definitely.
I worked in my garden this morning, not for the love of it but because it has to be done. Digging up and pulling those unwanted plants we call weeds is pretty much a mindless task and gives one time to think – maybe too much time. Hence this post.
“Why do these things grow better than the plants I enjoy?” I asked my husband. A rhetorical question if there ever was one.
God is a gardener. His first act after he created man was to place him in a garden – a perfect garden. No weeds. That’s not to say, no work. Adam was given the task of looking after not only the garden, but all of creation. Quite a task, I think.
We don’t know how long he worked at this task before Eve and he decided to do things their way. We do know the results. Banishment from God’s presence and lots of weeds to pull.
So where are these weeds in the Kingdom? Everywhere. Sins are those weeds. They’re unwanted, they grow more quickly than good plants and they multiply rapidly if not kept in check. Rooting out the weeds in the garden while they are still small prevents their spreading. Left unchecked, they flourish.
I know some of the weeds in my life that I need to eradicate. How about you?
