A lone tree, arms reaching upward and outward, provides welcome relief from the hot sun and pouring rain to man and beast. It is a testament to grace and beauty. It is fulfilling its task.
Each one of us has been given a purpose for living, a task to do and amazingly, each of us has been equipped to do fulfill that purpose, to do that task.
It may not always feel that way. Often we think, “Oh God, this is too much, too difficult, too menial, too . . .” We find other things to do. We bargain with God, “I’ll do this instead,” or “I think I’m better equipped to do a different thing,” or “my friend, . . . neighbour, . . . enemy, can handle that one better than I.”
Oh, we so love to pass the buck.
The lone tree’s arms reach gracefully upward, pointing to its Maker, and outward, embracing all who need shelter. It’s fulfilling its task.
How are you and I, children of God, fulfilling our tasks?
